The Late Prehistoric period is generally divided into two phases, Austin and Toyah. The Austin phase marks of the appearance of bow and arrow technology and the introduction of Scallorn arrow points around A.D. 800. The Austin phase is sometimes included in a period called the Transitional Archaic, along with a small dart point called Darl. Perdiz arrow points are the most common type of projectile point associated with the Toyah phase. Other distinctive Toyah tools include four-edged diamond beveled knives, scrapers, and drills. These other categories of tools will be discussed in the sections on general biface tools and uniface tools.
